Chuck :
If your paying $35 for a wrapped round bale, you should keep buying it.

Friends of mine Produced goat milk and sheep milk with the same System. When corona started, the price for goat and sheep milk decreased, the Cost for the hay increased. Some of them had to quit milking. Its not so easy as it sounds. i love your Channel. Greetings from Austria 👍

Last point: making hay is marginally profitable at best so what’s the most you could be overpaying? Not much but when things go wrong you can lose a lot making hay. Low upside, large downside

Here’s the delema I’m in. At what point do you buy your own flatbed trailer. Get by narrowing most of the time only need it a few times a year Is it worth tying up the money for convenience to save a few dollars when you find hay available. V getting all in a day or so with borrowed stuff

It’s amazing how different farm practices can be. I have similar reason to you, that’s why I grow my own hay and feed. Whatever it takes to better the bottom line.

Only produce 3 months of our own feed. Dad always said 9 outta 10 years you’ll be better off doing it this way. He said that 1 outta 10 you’ll just have to tough it out

I buy in hay. My land is mountainous. Not good for haying. Instead I pasture my land and buy in winter hay. The incoming hay acts as a nutrient input to my land, natural fertilizer. I also do not have the skills. I do not have the equipment. Making hay is a commodity — lots of farmers make it.

When you’re talking about Hay production, never forget whether is the biggest gamble. You’re not a real farmer if you don’t have faith that the big guy upstairs will keep the sun shining and the rain valve closed!!!

You are also importing fertility if you are getting it back out on your own ground after it runs through the cattle.
