If you lightly dust the wood with water before priming then sand again, you'll get the grain raised and sanded smooth before primer. that means there is more of the primer left on the piece when you paint which will result in a better surface

Here’s a tip as a professional furniture flipper. Mix water and plaster of Paris into any water based paint, you can use this paint directly on prepped furniture or primed, then add a top coat, it will not scratch or chip off
