being an RA is the unsung sidequest that unlocks a significant savings for school. 50% of your cost is housing. it's the equivalent of a full tuition scholarship. do this and qatch your college bill become somewhat affordable.

As an ra in a smaller university- being an ra is the easiest life hack for having a huge room to myself for free as an out of state student! Not only that but you also become very friendly with administration and can leverage that with great recommendation letters for future opportunities. Plus if you’re at a similar school to mine- we only end up working around 6 days a month with very little effort and no bulletin boards😝

As an upcoming an RA, I got on the waitlist before figuring out if I got the role or not. Another way to set yourself apart is to ask (if you get rejected or waitlisted) is to talk to the hall directors after you’re done with the application process is to talk to them and ask what you can do to improve. Take what they say to heart and reapply. Show them that you want the position

Look if your institution has a Residence Hall Association, at Kent State it was called Kent Interhall Council. You build valuable relationships in residence life and gain so much experience that would help with being an RA

man I had everything ready, I was involved with the hall council of my dorms which are kind of club that orgazes events for the residents, I went to the residence hall association meetings, every meeting, and was working as a front desk worker for the ResLife. I did everything I could and still didn't get the job, which was so confusing

I became besties with my RAs freshman year and that’s how I got the job. We also have a club called Residence Hall Council that programmed events for the building (it was run by one of our RAs) and it looked real good on my RA application cuz I already had the programming down. Basically network well and do relevant extracurriculars

Step 1, research what you actually need to do to become an RA at your school. My daughter's college requires you to complete an RA course before you can apply for the position.
