@untoldstoriesofhistory: NASA just turned off another instrument on Voyager 1 — the probe that’s been flying through space since 1977 and is still going strong 15.9 billion miles from Earth. Of the 10 science instruments it launched with, only 2 are left. The last thing its cameras ever saw was the Pale Blue Dot — a photo Carl Sagan fought to take before they were shut off forever. Now it takes 23 hours and 32 minutes just for a signal to reach it — and another 23 hours and 32 minutes to get a reply back. Nearly 47 hours for one conversation. And on November 15th, 2026, it will reach one full light-day from Earth — a milestone no spacecraft has ever hit. This is the wildest true story in the history of space exploration and most people have never heard it. #historytok #spacetok #voyager1 #TikTokLearningCampaign #History
I do wonder what a modern Voyager equivalent could do.

they should've kept the camera on so they can take shots of the outer universe... should've been an on and off system for the camera vs always on because it would've been interesting to see what's outside the suns magnetic field

Honestly, we can’t blame voyager one for getting a bit Squirrley now, The prognosis for how much longer it’s going to last isn’t really that great already, besides, it has long since done its job decades ago, Hell it was only meant to last for like five years or so, The fact is still functioning, and we’ve even managed to fix it a couple of times through software, (including activating dormant thrusters, that has been unused when the main ones jammed up), It’s a miracle that it’s still alive at all

so.. theoretically, what would happen if they attempt to turn the camera back on to try and get photos of deep outer space? would it completely kill Voyager's power bank if they did? V1's story is so interesting!!
