To be loved is to be liked. My mother may love me in concept, but has never really liked the person I am because to become comfortable with me and understand me would require learning she would have to be uncomfortable to do. So she doesn’t do it, and we are on the 29th year of her “not knowing what to do with me” when she’s had all this time to learn.

My mom always told me "I'm not your friend, I'm your mom" as long as I could remember for discipline and because she just didn't wanna hear about my interests to the point she'd make fun of them. Recently as an adult I said "You're not my friend, you're my parent. I chose not to love you because I only love my friends" and she got upset like girl 😭 YOUUUU didn't wanna be friends with ME! (I'm sorry your mom was similar, you're beautiful btw!)
