@explaining.quran: Siḥr (magic) in Islam is not just illusion — it is real and can have effects. The Qur’an mentions that people learned forms of siḥr that could even cause separation between a husband and wife, showing that it can impact relationships and lives (2:102). At the same time, the Qur’an makes an important point: siḥr does not have independent power. Nothing can harm a person unless Allah allows it. It is described as something that harms more than it benefits, and those who practice it put themselves in spiritual danger. Because of this, Islam doesn’t just warn about siḥr — it teaches protection. Seeking refuge in Allah, reciting Qur’an, and staying consistent in faith are the real defenses. Surahs like Al-Falaq and An-Nas are specifically recited for protection from hidden harm, including siḥr. The reality is balanced: Siḥr exists, and it can affect people — but it is never stronger than Allah, and it never escapes His control.
