Everyone knows the story after hearing this.. The greatest library in human history. Burned to the ground. Thousands of years of knowledge lost forever. But that's not actually what happened. The Library of Alexandria wasn't destroyed in one dramatic fire. It was killed slowly. By the people who were supposed to protect it. Yes Julius Caesar accidentally burned part of it during battle in 48 BC. But the library survived. It was rebuilt. It continued. The real destruction came later. And it came from multiple directions. Roman Emperor Aurelian attacked Alexandria in 270 AD. A significant portion was destroyed. Then Emperor Theophilus ordered pagan temples and institutions demolished in 391 AD. The library was considered pagan. So it was dismantled. Deliberately. Not burned dramatically. Systematically taken apart by people in power who decided certain knowledge was dangerous. Books weren't burned. They were banned. Confiscated. Destroyed quietly. Then the Arab conquest of Alexandria in 642 AD finished what remained. Centuries of deliberate destruction. Not one night of fire. What was lost inside that library nobody fully knows. Medical knowledge. Astronomical discoveries. Ancient history. Scrolls that could have changed everything we know today. The real story isn't about a fire. It's about who decided certain knowledge shouldn't survive.

theory : but if it didn’t burn down say we wouldn’t know what they said in those scrolls and letters and everything else they had in there like artefacts and much much more scientists would try to figure that out which would take years and years and probably no body would actually ever be able to understand it at all and the person who burned it down maybe Julius Caesar had a reason to so we didn’t rely on the part and relied on instinct and what we thought no what they thought thousands of years ago.

A fire burned a warehouse house, and it died because of slow neglect. But, it didn’t really but us back. When they took scrolls, they would leave the people they took the scrolls of with copies. Since everything had a copy, not that much knowledge actually died in the fire
