A survival-horror point-and-click experience, it follows Jennifer Simpson one year after the events of the first game. The series struggled to find its place in the West during the peak of survival horror. Its release came late in the PS1’s lifecycle, and it already felt somewhat dated by the time it reached Western audiences, having originally launched two years earlier in Japan during a period of rapid technological evolution. To be honest, I’m not usually a fan of point-and-click games, but in Clock Tower, it works incredibly well. It constantly builds tension and makes the experience far more immersive than most games of its era. And that’s exactly what makes it so unique: you don’t fight back — you only run, hide, and use limited items to slow down Scissorman. The series is also heavily inspired by Dario Argento’s Phenomena, starring Jennifer Connelly as Jennifer Corvino, a young girl hunted by a mysterious killer. Even the protagonist’s name and appearance directly echo that influence.
