Elephants are so amazing. The family connection is incredible. I read an article that explained how emotionally intelligent they are. They mourn members of the herd when they pass on, and actually cry tears. Truly incredible that we share a planet with them.

I went to Thailand to write an article about animals abused for tourist entertainment. I saw lots of elephants and was most moved by their stories. There was one that a rehabilitation center took, a young female who had had a baby taken from her. She killed two of the people who captured her and her baby to try and stop them. She wasn’t able to save her baby. They deemed her dangerous. One day she wandered out of the rehab center on accident because a gate was left open and it was a huge deal. They sent out search parties, only to find her eating some bamboo peacefully. She willingly came back with the people at the rehab and was deemed not a threat after that. They are so misunderstood from a situation that any mother would have done. Beautiful creatures, and we don’t deserve their kindness/forgiveness

Animals are so much closer to us than we were ever told. We were taught they only act out of instincts and that’s just not true. They are just like us. Four limbs. Two eyes. Two ears. One nose. And one big heart.
