So funny when we work for our ‘dream’ companies they end up disappointing us. I was headhunted and went through a 6 month process to be hired by X company who fired me at month 3. I work in HR btw and it was because my boss, the HR director didn’t check some documents properly. UNBELIEVABLE. I now don’t believe in ‘dream’ companies

I had a similar experience, albeit it wasn’t quite as senior. Arrived on my first day as a department manager for a gov organisation, based in an office where I would be the most senior manager and all of the team worked. The hiring manager turned up 1 hour late, stayed with me for 10 mins and left, leaving me with no IT access, ID access card or explanation as to what happens next. Eventually they booked me in to see HR to see these issues were sorted, on arrival they were rude to me and asked me to leave the building as I didn’t have my staff ID. I left the job after a week and they paid my notice pay, the recruitment process took 5 months. The painful part is that the role was super local to me and the manager left employment shortly after, which means I never would have worked with them for long. I still believe the organisation was toxic. I really enjoy listening to your experiences of these corporate workplaces.

Just went through something similar. Offered a fantastic opportunity, FT at an agreed salary and "let's sign the contract in mid January when everything is finalised." In the interim, I'm on casual consulting payrates but told to work FT anyway (so very nice income). Mid Jan comes and goes. But here's me trusting them... I didnt worry when they apologised for the delay, and proceeded to turn down other job offers. Then, in early March, with zero warning: oh, we need to drop you to two days a week starting today. No negotiations, nothing. That afternoon I applied for other jobs, started a new one about three weeks later. I don't burn bridges, but after telling them I found FT work elsewhere so cya, I made it very clear they just missed a massive opportunity to have me given my skills, experience, consistent success in other businesses, and, because it was a dream industry for me, mates rates for the salary amount.

I was quite young and headhunted.. so flattered, taken to lunch to close the deal. Promised salary I wanted. So excited. Dream job in government mind you, great boss that I’d encountered in a previous role. I arrive on day 1, she says - sorry we couldn’t secure budget so we can only pay this and yes, contract for now but I promise I’ll fix it. Sorry about the glitch. Also, we have issues with space so you’ll be on another floor - just neat the call centre. My inexperience meant I accepted this hoping she would honour the original offer. Never did, I lasted four months - never again did I fall for the bs.

all companies do this. HR wanted to fill the role, the manger was using it to leverage his own salary, and the person he wanted missed out. He negotiated. I signed... Knowledge is also power, all roles were under review, companies pay the role not the person, the manger selects the person to fit the team. ( or in case, the manger selects who will not out shine his master)

Can I ask how you deal with having a role & package that on paper ticks all the boxes but feels wrong every day your there, you know in your heart that its not what you want to be doing for the next 10 years! How do you allow yourself walk away without feeling like a failure!
