Question: have you guys always been this consistent with your kids and these rules or did you apply them later on when things were out of control? I’m asking because I need to know how hard this is gonna be to start implementing.lol

In my house I say, “do what I need you to do and you get to do what you want to do.” (Within reason of course)

You have given me the language that I’ve been searching for as I’m entering the teen years. This weekend, I introduced the “yes ma’am” concept to a couple of my kids. I’m tired of them constantly trying to be right and sometimes, we just need a little yes ma’am and then move on with getting things done.

We have this for our toddler too. Her ONLY chore only responsibility outside of cleaning up after herself is to feed and water the dogs before and after daycare. It takes her literally 5 minutes and every day she comes home from school and starts asking for toys and play time every day it’s nothing till your chores are done. And she acts like it’s a new rule. Glad to know if we stay on her it’ll work out one day

I am not a parent and I likely have no room to say anything here BUT in the back of my head, I always have a thought of like what if something happens, something life altering. Your last memory would be you telling your son to clean his room rather than spending time with him in an important moment in his life, your life too. It’s a terrible way to think but it’s realistic. Tomorrow is promised. I understand structure 100% but I also have the mindset of let’s live a little because we truly never know what tomorrow holds. A 30-45 min is a memory you’ll hold forever, him too. A clean room is just gonna get messy again and you can manage him again. Coming from a guy who didn’t have a mama growing up. I took a lot of things for granted, my dad too as I was growing up.
