@rkbaggs: The EU just launched their new age verification app. They said it was built to "the highest privacy standard in the world." It then got hacked in under 2 minutes. Security consultant Paul Moore broke it by editing a single text file on his phone, bypassing the PIN. However, he was also able to edit the rate limit, and the biometric check. The EU Commission is now rushing out a new version, but Telegram founder, Pavel Durov, suggests this was the intention all along so that they could strip back privacy features... Remember, Ofcom is writing a report right now on whether the UK's own age verification under the Online Safety Act is "highly effective." Same idea, same privacy nightmare waiting to happen. #privacy #bigbrother #digitalid #EU #surveillance

Age verification is NEVER about child safety. It's about Identification and monitoring of adults

Not suprising that political leaders don’t understand tech. Most of them never held a real job.

If you say something is extremely well protected, it is taken as a challenge, especially if it’s by a big org or government.

“Age verification” right… it has nothing to do with it. It’s just another step to full controll. And if Vonderleyen says it’s safe, you already know it isn’t. The only thing safe as it concerns her is text messages that are perfectly removed without a trace.

Honestly as a standard a zero trust / zero knowledge transfer system is the right way to go about age verification. Single trusted provider that as verified once (ideally doenst store data long term) and merely passes that signal on. similar to phone biometrics. this is 1M times better than uploading ID or face scan to random 3rd party providers.

"A review of the Commission’s GitHub repository for the app revealed an explicit notice stating the code represented an early-stage release. The disclaimer warned that security and privacy protections fell below the standards of the intended final product and that the application was not recommended for real-world deployment." So the app explicitly was released for the purpose of getting everyone to help find the bugs, and they did. 🌹
