@mentra.me: microsoft changed the front door and got 90%+ retention. meanwhile most companies are still acting like panel interviews are some sacred way of finding talent. lol they’re not. Comment GET JOBS if you’re tired of being judged on how you perform in a room instead of what you can actually do.

people arent hired because they are qualified they are hired because they are liked. everybody being interviewed is qualified. I thought this was known.

I’ve literally been told that no one can do my job better than me. That three people can’t do the job I do. But I almost got fired - and actually got demoted - because I’m not “fun to have in the office.” So fun to learn that most people never grow out of high school lunchroom dynamics.

Literally, the workplace always turned on me because I do the work, I do it really well, I lead well, and work well with others — BUT I cannot handle small talk. I will throw my body down between you and corporate to get you paid leave to care for your sick family member, I care about you as a human, as part of the team, but no, I cannot keep up with how your sport team did and I cannot pretend to be comfortable making time for discussion about it at the workplace. If we’re clocked in, I’m gonna need you to lock in, or at least leave me alone.

Meanwhile, I got laid off or fired from every single one of my jobs because I was not a good “social fit”, but I was an incredibly smart system thinker, and a really good worker. That’s why I own my own business now 💁🏼‍♀️

I never got the eye contact thing, why am I being judged by how well I can maintain eye contact with a stranger for a job where I'm not even interacting with people.

I wish mentra had more variety in its job postings. There are a lot of neurodivergent folk in creative fields as well as tech, TONS of audhd women in design and marketing, but the platform does not seem focussed on helping non-technical autistic folks find opportunities.

When I learned that having a job wasn't simply being proficient and excelling within a profession that had specifically studied but it also entailed being good as socializing with my coworkers and being a good peon to the upper management and never challenging but always having an answer ready it fucking broke me. And all of that is way more heavily than my ability to do the task which I spent years of my life dedicated to learning and becoming proficient and exceptional at

This initiative will not last. Companies are social being everybody has the minimum competence to do the job. Likability and culture fit is the most import factor for being hired and kept.

What does retention prove? That the individuals didn’t want to leave or that the employer thought they were acceptable enough not to fire?

I've tried mentra in the past but all of the jobs are the same. All of the jobs followed the trend of being unskilled underpaid labor or computer science. I'm not trained in computer sciences, and I have a master's degree in public administration. we aren't a monolith
