@childocdtherapist: Most people think this is perfectionism. And yes, kids can absolutely struggle with perfectionism too. But this isn’t that. “Just right” OCD isn’t about wanting things to be perfect… it’s about a feeling that won’t settle until something feels exactly right. That feeling can show up in ways parents don’t expect: redoing things over and over getting stuck on small details needing to say or do something again melting down when rushed or interrupted From the outside, it can look like stubbornness, control, or even defiance. But underneath it is a child dealing with intense internal discomfort that won’t go away until they fix it. And the more they try to fix that feeling… the stronger OCD becomes. Sometimes people wonder if this is sensory processing. And kids can absolutely have both. OCD also loves to hijack other struggles, including sensory sensitivities, and turn them into something that needs to be repeated, fixed, or made “just right.” While sensory sensitivities can look similar on the surface, “just right” OCD is driven by an internal urge to repeat or redo something until the discomfort settles. That’s why telling them to “just stop” or “hurry up” doesn’t work, and often makes it worse. We’re not saying to let OCD take over. We’re saying we need to understand what’s driving it so we can respond in a way that actually helps. Because when parents shift how they respond, everything starts to change. I definitely rewrite things until they are right. I didn’t realize this was part of my OCD. It’s kind of amazing how much I’m learning about myself by helping my daughter. I was misdiagnosed my whole life until I had my daughter. Now we’re learning together🥰 You’re videos help so much!!

Can this be also feeling their face isn’t clean? I’m compiling a list for our doctor but sometimes unsure what is “normal” and what is ocd. Child often feels face it isn’t clean or that they have toothpaste or sauce on it and will clean it a few times and ask a few times

My niece used to do this when she was like 6 and I was responsible for getting her and like 5 other kids to school everyday. At first we were always late no matter when I got them all up bc of her "just right" issues so I just forced her through getting dressed, brushing teeth, hair and breakfast. Looking back idk if that was the right thing to do bc I bet it ruined her day and I know it made her hate me. She doesn't do it now though and she's 21.
