@amanda_arrows: Raising Catholic kids means if we don’t teach our kids the why behind the faith and give them the confidence to articulate it… someone else will define it for them. #catholic #catholicmom #raisingteens #parenting #faithformation

I think the best thing you can do is show love to your kids and live out the faith while also not making it feel forceful. I look at my wife's aunt who is a great Catholic and could be seen as how a Catholic mom should raise their kids in their church. how many are practicing? of the 7, maybe 1 but because of kids. her kids became great adults but church became a thing you do on Sunday and take your kids too. on the flip side, I've seen children from staunch atheist parents who tried to keep Christianity out of their kids lives... become Catholic. it's not too say don't do anything and hope for the best. helping create a Catholic conscious and strong moral compass is still worth it. giving the why to a lot of things we do as Catholic is good because it shows our faith is rooted. I know many people I was confirmed with leave and one reason why is, no oned answered their questions.

As someone that was raised catholic (now an atheist since 23') and went to a church program on sundays, my family unfortunately forced me into catholicism. I would and still always dread going to church. I obv respect you catholic people here + the religion per se BUT I DONT respect the pushy type. When I stated I didnt want to go to church, yeah, itd make my family mad. Now everytime I go, I use my dark ahh humor brainrot to cope and suppress my anger/resentment. I utterly hate seeing people force catholicism/Christianity on one another, ESP parents forcing it on their children.

I am a youth leader and this is true. I see so many kids get there confirmation in the 8th grade and then they don’t come back. One this could be the parents fault. But also we run a very fun filling youth program helping our children grown and socialize with each other in the same faith. Once done with high school the enter our “young adult program” ages 18-39. Where they will continue to learn about things like marriage more adult things. I do suggest that if your teens have never been to a Steubenville conference it is the most amazing thing for my area TX over 5,000 teens come together to praise and love Jesus. Also the seek conference is another young adult conference which is amazing!!!

You have it so right!! I was baptized catholic as baby but didn’t do my confirmation til 15 yrs ago. Still didn’t take it all in. Just went thru the motions while my kids were going thru in. Now I’m 100% in it and my kids are grown and I feel like I failed them. They don’t attend regularly but they’re getting back into it more. Prayed and prayed for my husband and 2 oldest to go to confession after over 8 yrs and they all finally went 3 wks ago. But I wished I would’ve done better when they were teenagers.

The most important part to teach by far is the Eucharist. This is what sets us apart from almost all other Christians. They need to know everything! Where it’s found in the Bible, what it means, how it’s literally Jesus’s Body, and how it connects to sacrifice as well as our own bodies in marital union. Of course, save the last part until they’re mature enough 😂 Have them watch Fr Mike Schmitz because his videos have helped me understand so much. I genuinely don’t think I would still be Catholic if I never watched him. Keep doing what you’re doing!!

I'm a revert and I really got creative when I was advancing my daughter's teachings ahead of her Quinceañera. Yes, questions and conversation!

The best you can do is be a volunteer, be a catchiest. This will grow your knowledge, as well learn how to teach. And your child will also want to be a volunteer. My daughter is in Choir, Lifeteen, and part of the youth council for our diocese. My son is an altar server. 🙏

As a soon-to-be Mom, I feel the same way! The best thing my parents ever did for me as a kid who went to Catholic school was they told me I could explore other religions and they'd be 100% okay with it. Having the option to choose that for myself made me want to stay Catholic. Now being married to a Greek Orthodox, our kids will be exposed to both churches and we can't wait!

I'm a CCD teacher, and as an adult I'm finally learning my faith. It takes time and an adult brain to truly understand. Just continue teaching and explaining as you go to mass. As I learn something new, I teach my kids and my class.

YESSSS 👏🏼🙌🏼🫶🏼🙏🏼✨️🤗‼️I'm doing exactly the same with my Son 🤗✨️🙌🏼I'm learning with my Son, the things that I missed growing up in the church. To see my Son understand the importance of asking questions and seeking truth to help him solidify his Faith is such a beautiful experience 🫶🏼🙌🏼✨️🤗‼️

Same!!! My child is still too young for communion but every... single .. mass she asks for the body of Christ. she even kneels and prays for it. I want her to really understand what it means and I try to explain everything to her. She still has a few years until she can receive communion. I hope she stays excited about it.

Yes 100!! Perfectly said …… with my oldest I was so scared that I pushed so much of our faith that when she graduated and went to college she would be done. But she can defend our faith and why we believe what we believe. We as parents have to do more than just taking them to church. My kids can name all the parts of the church and the symbols. My son who is 11 can sit at adoration and talk to Jesus. To watch kids and adults receive communion and do it all wrong no bow no loud amen just ugh me !!! And see people not genuflect before sitting down at the pew !!! 😡 most kids my son age or younger can be asked why so we genuflect before entering the pew and they can’t answer correctly- why ??? Because the parent don’t even know they just do it out of habit. My kids know when we visit a church to look and locate the tabernacle and to genuflect towards it. But how are kids suppose to know if parents now and days do the bare minimum. Like you said I want my kids to know where in the Bible to locate what to defend what they believe. Well said

This, I also did youth group and volunteered all throughout the church. I ended up teaching catechism in my early 20s. Lost my faith around that time but I’m working on finding it
