The Milan Cortina Winter Olympics opening ceremony averaged 21.4 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, according to preliminary Nielsen ratings and digital data from Adobe Analytics — Comcast NBC Universal have the television rights for the US. “The Olympic Games capture the attention of the nation like no other sporting event,” said Vito Forlenza, VP, Sports Entertainment, Connectivity & Platforms, Comcast. In Italy, host of this year’s Olympics, viewership reached a record 9.2 million or 46.2% for the opening ceremony — which featured Mariah Carey singing in Italian, Andrea Bocelli performance, and a mix of Hollywood and Italian stars icons including Sabrina Impacciatore, Vittoria Ceretti, Laura Pausini, Ghali, and Charlize Theron. Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni — who met Vance on the sidelines — were also in attendance in Milan.
