Hello! Specialist here! I see that she is engaging in SIB. This behavior is a pain seeking/sensory behavior. I have seen this in several of my sensory-seeking/SIB adult clients because holding their pee is another painful/sensory feeling they have learned they can control. This might very well be another method of SIB/sensory-seeking behavior.

As a follower I feel like her SIBs increased after the obgyn appointment…but maybe I’m reaching. Headaches or hormone changes from visit? I have two children both level 3 autistic and both were nonverbal for many years…trying to understand if they are in pain and where pain might be is so hard.

I was a complex care pediatric nurse and there is a thing called neurologic bladder. We would have to cath if 12+ hours of not voiding. Talk to the doctors. Some meds can make this worse.

Urinary retention can be a side effect of certain antipsychotics (like Risperidone, Clozaril, Olanzapine), combined with chronic rigidity … ask for urology referral while at neurology. Maybe they can do a bladder scan while she’s in an outpatient specialist office. puberty/ hormonal changes may be contributing to this

I was a neuro nurse and it sounds like neurogenic bladder basically the brain and bladder aren’t communicating that it’s time to pee. Also having urinary retention would make my patients extremely agitated. Wishing you and camryn peace and healing

Mention a spinal tap to Neuro to check her opening pressure if possible especially if she has any upcoming sedation scheduled or needed they can combine procedures sometimes 🥺 also catatonia, Neuro shouldn’t brush you off with that the way the hospital did! It’s just a series of questions to get started with trying to rule that out.

My daughter has Aicardi Syndrome and urine retention is common. We only see one or two pees a day max as well. I always start to panic still once it hits the 24hr mark 😳.
