As much the ending frustrates me and as tragic as it is, I’m so glad they included a scene like this. Gwen’s intense love for Merlin and wholehearted acceptance of who he is really shines through, something they tended to neglect a little once she became queen

The fact she just needed to final confirmation but eventually put two and two together on her own at the end made my heart swell and ache. Made me absolutely sick and overjoyed to the point it overwhelmed me and I just started crying uncontrollably. It’s the fact that she was happy to know it was Merlin. that day gwen truly lost her "sister" morgana, lost her love arthur and her best friend merlin, but in that moment of recognition she knew that her love was in the care of that new boy at camelot who was always put in the stocks, drinking at the tavern and dealing with arthur 🥲😅 she couldn't of wished for anyone better to take care of arthur
