@coaching.among.chaos: The amount of 14 American and Liberty teams with 11+ girls on a roster i have seen this year has be W I L D. I think there is a time and place for large rosters on a club team, but i feel like 11/12 is becoming the norm and i don’t think it’s helping overall player development or the girl’s confidence-especially in the younger age groups and lower divisions #volleyball #clubvolleyball #volleyballteam #volleyballcoach #volleyballtournament

10 players is the sweet spot. 11 if a player tries out and really deserves it

I like 8 or 9. Makes my job a lot easier finding playing time for everyone

Because clubs want that money! Player 11 and 12 will never get subbed in. 👀

A club team needs 9 no more than 10. 8 would be ideal

I had 12 players, and there was a gap in skill level. It was so frustrating the whole season.

We just experienced this. 14 on a roster. My child rarely played. She got taken out for 1 mistake and was never put back in. Traveled in and out of state to watch my child watch her team play. Coach just said to trust the process 🤔.

12 makes practice convenient, also a lot of them r prone to being sick + they have other commitments so it’s nice to have a bench

12 is fine. Hard to play game like reps without 12. Sure you could go 6v4, but not ideal. Agree 14 is too many

I coached 8th grade last season with 7 girls. I was in heaven. We need to cap teams at 10 but really 8 or 9 is ideal.

We take and run a 6-2. Every one plays at least 3 rotations.

I do not think there is any issues with 12 players as long as you have the right conversations with players before hand, 95% of improvement comes from practice, not playing. Larger rosters breed competition in practice because they are working for playing time. I would not recommend it for teams that are not the top 1 or 2 teams at their club though

I take 13-14. It makes for way more competitive practices. We got to multiple qualifiers. And we are very transparent about playing time. I think most of my players get way better during practice then matches

We have 10-11 on average. We have girls who play other sports. We have unforeseen injuries. I’m able to get all my players in. For the most part I have 1 player who plays all the way around. Then 2 Liberos that go in for middles. Then my setters and right sides go in for one another. Then one DS goes in for the other outside. It works for me to help develop 14-16s. And that way if someone is struggling that weekend we can make changes. It works for me. Everyone sees the court every set.

How do you feel about not giving playing time to players who barely attend practice. Parents complain about not letting her play during tournaments however, she keeps losing so many key practices. Playing time is earned and so many parents fail to understand that too.

It’s hard to run practices with less than 12 girls. I’ve played on competitive club teams with only 10 girls but as a coach it’s hard to run practices with a roster that small especially once you factor in people getting sick or injured.

it is so annoying, we have 13 players and so many don't get playing time and I'm gratefully a starter and almost always on court.

just know, we are 10 and are down 2 setters to injury. Having to redo rotation with using others to set so I get nervous when we are 10 or less 😬 praying everyone is back for Nationals
