It stopped being enough when we expanded the definition of what basic needs are. You don’t need a TV and a $1500 phone and multiple streaming services and high-speed Internet and vacations abroad and a new car and food delivered to your house and eight dollar coffees.

i work full time as a case manager helping adults/children meet their basic needs, including organizing appointments, helping them learn how to pay bills, doing home visits, and budgeting. my income puts me below the poverty line.

The reality is that when these living situations become untenable people have a way of leaving to find a better place. Maybe you want to live in Costa Rica and just farm the land idk, but thats hard when your attached, and also I think you point is that we shouldent have to leave the country for basic needs to be met or have a life that is more than basic struggles.
