I think it takes a little bit more discernment than that. We all have disrespected God. We’ve all been unfaithful to him. We’ve all betrayed him. Does he utterly shake the dust off his feet towards us? That’s for the individual to decide. God does have boundaries and so should we. But remember that forgiveness and love are the core of who we are because that’s the core of who he is. Sometimes that requires us to stay… To continue to pour out love, even when it hurts. That doesn’t lower your value. It shows the value of an inner heart that is at peace and has a deep understanding of reconciliation, compassion, and forgiveness. All of those things require discretion. When trust is broken repair must occur in order for trust to be restored. Boundaries around trust are different than boundaries around forgiveness and compassion. Sometimes we cannot stay because trust it’s broken and there is no evidence of repair which requires change of patterned behavior over a time. Sometimes we stay so that we can observe that repair. If every time someone offended us and disrespected us, we ran away or distanced ourselves… How would reconciliation ever occur? Remember… We all have disrespected God. Forgiveness is something he gives to us and repentance is something he gives through us. Both of them we experience.
