What I can’t figure out is what changed? I miss how magical it always felt.

Shopping malls were a big part of the Christmas experience and now everybody just shops online. Also getting the Sears wish book and looking at every page in the toy section.

Bc nothing is special anymore. We don’t have to wait until ABC family plays Home Alone on Friday. We don’t experience shopping in malls where there were big Christmas trees and it smelled like cinnamon and pine and fresh food from the food court. Kids are getting so many presents that it feels like a JOB for them to open them all- where as back then we didn’t have an excessive amount of presents so each one we got to open was intention and exciting. It’s lost its magic due to increasing technology. Period.

Kids don't want toys anymore, people decorate less; it breaks my heart, but Christmas is going, just like Halloween has. I don't think it'll ever be like we remember again

Streaming services ruined a lot of this. Having scheduled programming for holiday movies was the best. And all the holiday specials for tv shows too!

It is sad, they don’t even make Christmas movies anymore really. Think of how many were made in our generation, basically all of them. Home Alone(s), Santa Claus with Tim Allen, Elf, Jack Frost. These made that time of year feel special

I would cancel all of my subscriptions if they create a streaming service that imitates a TV from the 90’s. Instead of picking shows/movies you pick channels and watch the commercials that were on then too. 😭

People could afford to decorate their house back then…it was magical and now people are trying to afford to live!

incandescent lightbulbs reflect differently on wood veneer TV boxes for one thing. shows look warmer with a little static. all our old relatives were still alive. those are just a few things

As a millennial parent! Stop these sniveling comments! It’s up to US to keep the magic alive so DO it! Decorate! Tell stories! Keep traditions alive! If these things die out it’s our fault and no one else’s!

with technology advancements as much as I love progress, it has taken the mystery and experiences out of things like this, imo

Honestly we ruined Christmas we rush through life too fast we never slow down to enjoy it anymore. Everything is to expensive now too can’t even light up the house cause the bill will be too high, then to even buy things anymore it’s just too much….

Christmas for me was never truly about the presents. Yeah I obviously wanted them. But I spent most decembers watching Christmas movies with my dad. My favorite is the George C. Scott A Christmas Carol. Polar express is good too. Most nights I’d be up until 10pm with school the next day. And my dad never made me go to bed. It’d be just me and him watching a Christmas movie. That’s the part I’ll never get to have again. Not because he’s gone, just older now with a wife and my own place. But hopefully someday I can do it with my own kids.

Everyone's houses were decorated, everyone's mom's were always baking sweet treats for family and neighborhood kids, the malls were decked out, the local parks had drive thru Christmas lights teamed up with a local radio station playing Christmas music, Christmas parties at the youth centers or YMCA, downtown was decked out, charolers were singing, pop-up Santa, gingerbread house contests. it's just so absent these days

For many, it’s more about the people that the places. The ones who made the traditions rather than the traditions themselves.
