I've seen some comparisons being made online lately. And comparisons only work when the situations being compared are actually the same. Mine isn't. So before anyone else tells my story, I'm going to tell it myself. I've heard the rumors. I've seen the comments. I've heard people say that Alysha Crider was on a registry in Georgia. That part is true. Years ago, I was. What people aren't telling you is why. And honestly, that's the part that matters. You see, when people hear the word
You see, when people hear the word "registry," they immediately start filling in the blanks. They assume. They speculate. And before long, a rumor becomes a story. The problem is that it isn't my story. So let me tell you mine. Many years ago, my family was going through a crisis. A real one. The kind that keeps you awake at night. The kind that leaves you scared, angry, confused, and trying to protect the people you love. At the center of that crisis was my daughter. As a mother, I was operating from fear. I wasn't thinking about courtrooms. I wasn't thinking about headlines. I was thinking about my child. And in the middle of that storm, a series of decisions were made that changed the course of multiple lives, including my own. Some of those decisions were mine. Some belonged to others. But the consequences became mine to carry. I was arrested. I was convicted. And one of those consequences was being placed on a registry in Georgia because of a conviction for False Imprisonment of a Minor under the age of 18 (he was 16 at the time he assaulted my daughter). That isn't a secret. It never has been. What hurts isn't that people know. What hurts is watching one of the most painful chapters of my life reduced to assumptions. Because a label cannot tell you the fear. A record cannot tell you the heartbreak. And a rumor certainly cannot tell you the whole story. For years I replayed those events in my head. The things I should have done. The things I should have said. The decisions I wish I could take back. But eventually I learned something. You cannot build a future by living in the worst day of your past. So I stopped trying to rewrite that chapter. Instead, I started writing the next one. The person you know today didn't appear out of nowhere. She was built from those lessons. Built from those mistakes. Built from accountability. Built from growth. Built from the determination to never stop becoming better than I was before. My past is part of my story. It is not the entirety of my story. And the person I am today was built from everything I learned along the way. My name is Alysha Crider. And that's how we got here. I did get first offenders and my crime (and all designations) have been removed. If you want me to do a story time, let me know! #suckit #onaghhopke #liar #notafraidofyou #lolcow
