@yourhengness: Some of them were mine. I have listed 6. Most people focus on the obvious ones — income, investments, savings rate. But it's the last one that nobody talks about. And it's the one that finally shifted my trajectory. Swipe through. Save this if any of them hit home. And if you've made one of these — You're not alone. #yourhengness #realRaymondHeng #BankerTurnedRealtor #corporatelife #banking
Earning 15,000 monthly and driving a 35,000 car. And still felt the pressure of the declining economy. Flashier cars claims are only relevant in the 90s and 00s. No one earning below 20k does that anymore. 20k is the new 5k. This is how the new world order comes in soon.

Current day, if you dont have $7m - $8m in cash / equities, a fully paid house, forget about retiring or having a life. 😢

well said, many are misled by high salaries and squander their income away, thinking it will be there forever. As we aged, we know it's not true. Easy come, easy go.

always have savings that last you for at least 1year of what you earn, or at least what you spend on average

Nice! Great if you could elaborate bit more. For #1, 12 month emergency fund where would you keep it? For #6, how would you calculate the number? —- For #5, yes time is the most valuable resource indeed. No amount of money can replace lost time.

Slightly younger than you. Early 40s. I got my MD early in banking before switching to Asset Management. Working for a firm now that allows me 4 days WFH every week. I have considered retirement but I find work gives me meaning.

Your post maybe a reminder for me, was laid off 5 months ago and I’m lucky to have safety funds for a year. I think another mistake is thinking the circles we have will be there when you are down. Making fulfilment for mistake 5 while I’m on a break. To those in the same situation ,persevere and remodel the life! I look forward to your post on calculating my numbers

It’s not about how much you have but how little you need. I live a modest lifestyle, spent well below my means and retired in my 40s with $8k per mth passive income, fully paid up house and car and a 7 figure equity portfolio that’s still growing without me doing anything.

Rental income esp from local property is such a boomer pov - passed down from folks from that era. Time to move forward. Taking physical delivery of investable assets is just plain ol silly.
