Legendary Street Photographer ❤️🎞 Featured Artist © Vivian Dorothy Maier #ClassicsMagazine Vivian Dorothy Maier, born in New York City, February 1, 1926 - April 21, 2009. A street photographer whose work was discovered and recognized after her death consisting of over 100,000 negatives, remained largely undeveloped and hidden in storage lockers. Her “day job” was as a live-in nanny, in her spare time, she obsessively documented the world around her, capturing candid moments of everyday life, people, and architecture in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and during world travels. A self-taught photographer with a masterful eye for composition, light, and shadow. She often used a Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex camera and her work is noted for its empathy for her subjects, a wry sense of humor, and insightful social commentary on American life in the post-war era. She was intensely private and reclusive, never showing her photographs to anyone during her lifetime. Her work came to light in 2007 when her storage lockers were auctioned off due to non-payment of rent. Since the discovery, Maier has achieved global recognition. Her photographs have been featured in numerous international exhibitions, publications, and the Oscar-nominated 2013 documentary “Finding Vivian Maier.” Open Call: Photographers Street Photography Awards 📸 Open for entries! Cash prize! Finalists win a series spread in our new Street Photography Book and worldwide exposure. Grand Prize Winner gets the Front & Back Cover feature plus $1000. Digital & Film welcome.
