Ever since I was 10, I knew I wanted to be a corporate lawyer. Honestly. 😂 I wanted the career. The degree. The title. The prestige. And 💸. I wanted to work hard, build a name for myself and become the person I had imagined I would be. And I did. There were tears, sleepless nights, exams, deadlines and plenty of moments where I wondered if I had chosen the right path. Then I graduated, qualified, and eventually moved to a big bank. And honestly, I LOVED my job. So this isn’t an anti-law post. Law has given me so much. It gave me independence, opportunities, financial freedom and the ability to afford and maintain the lifestyle I want. I’m genuinely so grateful for the career I built. But somewhere along the way, I realised something: I love travelling even more than I love working. And I think it’s okay to admit that. We put so much pressure on ourselves in our 20s to have everything figured out. The perfect career, the perfect CV, the next promotion, the next milestone. We convince ourselves that if we’re not constantly progressing, we’re falling behind. But your 20s are not a race. You are allowed to work hard and still take a break. You are allowed to change your mind. You are allowed to step away from the career you’ve spent years building. You are allowed to travel, explore and figure out what actually makes you happy. Because there will always be another job. Another promotion. Another title. Another deadline. But you will never be 23 again. You will never be 25 again. You will never be 27 again. You will never have this exact version of your freedom, energy and time again. I don’t regret becoming a lawyer. I don’t regret working hard. I don’t regret the years I spent building my career. I just don’t believe success has to mean working every possible hour. Sometimes success is graduating. Sometimes it’s landing your dream job. And sometimes it’s closing your laptop, booking a flight and going to see what else the world has to offer. ✈️ You worked hard to build your life. Don’t forget to actually live it. Your career can wait. Your 20s won’t.
