Her primary directive is to ensure that March can continue her Trailblaze without being crushed by the weight of her true identity. This creates a relationship of silent service. Evernight watches through March’s eyes, experiencing the world as a passenger. She is the "obsessive protector" who views the Garden of Recollection and the Memokeepers with hostility, seeing their attempts to recover March’s memories as a threat to March’s current happiness. The relationship shifts from a subconscious presence to a tangible reality during the Back to Earth in Evernight Trailblaze Quest. When the Astral Express crew arrives on the world of Amphoreus, the unique environment and the influence of the Coreflame of Time trigger a resonance within March 7th. As March enters a state of deep slumber on the Express, her consciousness projects outward into the world of Amphoreus in the form of her alter—Evernight. For the first time, the two aspects of the same soul are functionally distinct. Evernight acts as a foreign guest on the planet, possessing a cold, aloof demeanor that is the polar opposite of March’s warmth. The tension between them stems from their differing views on the past. March 7th is terrified of what she might find if she looks back, while Evernight is the past. Evernight holds the "Original Sin" or the truth of their origin, and she deliberately keeps it from March. In the 3.6 story arc, Evernight explains that she chose the name "Evernight" to differentiate herself because she refuses to lie to the Trailblazer. She acknowledges that she and March are one, yet she treats March 7th as a precious child or a "mirrored soul" that must be shielded from the harsh light of truth. The climax of their relationship occurs when March 7th must confront her own shadow to save her friends. Evernight, wielding the Path of Remembrance and the power of "Oblivion" (Enigmata), initially acts as a wall.
