Hey as for the irrelevant experience, I’m in my first office job, and all my previous experience is retail and hospo. If feels wrong to have retail work on my resume still but it also feels wrong to only put the one role I’m in now - what would you do?

Hey, I keep my professional experience on resume, esthetics, bridal consultation, property manager. I’m getting interviews because of my resume. One I’m a strong candidate as a building manager cause of my strong customer service back ground and esthetics. Yes I could remove and keep just 7 years of my property management experience. But it’s been crucial for me to be landing interviews. One i impressed both of them but found out it was already promised internally but they called me to tell me and they plan to keep my resume for future. Sometimes keeping some of your past experience makes you unique in comparison to other candidates. Does it have all of it ? No but don’t take away what may separate you from the rest.

So I worked at a lot of early stage roles/start ups that didn’t have established KPIs and I always get stuck on how to add metrics to those roles. Things weren’t measured or weren’t tracked in ways that make it possible for me to list the 🫠

One thing I have to say, as someone with an ethnic name, I did an experiment once where I applied for the same jobs exact same resumes — one had Keshia and the other had my middle name instead which is Marie. I got rejected from the same jobs who called me as Marie. Sometimes it isn’t even your resume, it’s racist hiring managers.
