@kalro.naivasha.farm: Feeding dairy cows is done in a structured, consistent way to ensure they receive a balanced diet that supports milk production, health, and body condition. A good feeding program is based on a Total Mixed Ration (TMR), where all feed ingredients—such as silage, hay, concentrates, and minerals—are thoroughly mixed together and offered as one complete meal. This ensures every cow gets the same nutrients in every bite and prevents selective feeding. Each day, cows are fed high-quality forages like maize silage and hay as the main part of the diet, providing fiber for proper digestion. Alongside this, concentrates such as dairy meal are added to supply energy and protein needed for milk production. A mineral supplement is included to support bone strength, fertility, and overall health. Feeding is usually done two to three times a day, preferably at the same times each day to maintain routine and reduce stress. Fresh, clean water is always available, as dairy cows require large amounts of water to produce milk. The feed is provided in clean troughs, and any leftover or spoiled feed is removed regularly to maintain hygiene and encourage good intake. Rations are adjusted depending on the cow’s stage of production—for example, cows producing more milk receive more concentrates. Overall, proper feeding focuses on consistency, balance, cleanliness, and adequate quantity, ensuring the cows remain healthy and productive

this is group feeding. How about different production levels. we also have dry cows or those in process of drying. I do challenge feeding sometimes as long as additional feeds can give additional milk at cost.
