This is why as much as I loved the comedy of angel and spike together I actually hate they brought him over like they do after season 7. Because this spike? Would not have just hung out with angel. This Buffy? Would have showed up to see him as soon as she found out. Yea it was hilarious him and a gem together in season 5 of angel. But it just degraded some of spikes growth and took away the significance of this.

I have always argued the point that Angelus would have NEVER sought out his soul for anything especially Buffy, Spike fell in love with her despite not having a soul and did everything in his power to gain a soul knowing the consequences just so he could hold her, Angel was a good first love to Buffy, but every aspect of Spike wanted and loved her whole-heartedly. In their relationship she was the problem and that was only true because of everything going on in her life, if they had been together at any other point it would've been a healthy relationship, in her relationship with Angel Angel was more often the problem and that was just because they were both being stilted and although they find comfort in each other even just as friends they were never going to work.
