@emilyeverydaymom: I know it comes from a good place. I really do. But when you’re already overwhelmed… when your brain is already trying to hold everything together… having to figure out what you need on top of that feels impossible. Especially as an autism mom. There’s so much constant mental load, so much pressure, so many moving pieces… that sometimes you don’t even have the capacity to process your own needs, let alone explain them. So when I say “I don’t know”… it’s not me pushing people away. It’s me being honest.
My issue is I have to advocate to everyone , I’m tired of doing it to my family. LEARN.

my answer has become "take something off my plate" and by that I mean simple things that need to get done but still take brain power. keep the kids occupied while I take a REAL shower, help me load the dishwasher or pick up the toys. maybe ask what my grocery list is and help me order what I need(not necessarily pay for it). like if you truly see ive neglected something small I will 1000% be thankful if you just pick up the slack because having ONE less thing to do is indescribable for someone who doesnt get help on a daily

we live in survival mode. taking a break never really feels like a break because all I do is stress about how my autistic son is doing when he is with anyone else

the decision fatigue is real. I need people to just DO not ask because I either can't process what I need or I do know and don't tell them because of guilt/shame

Exactly. I don’t even want a break from my kids. I want a break from life always being so fkn hard. I just want to enjoy my life with my kids, not a break from them.

My go to list is: make dinner or pick something up and bring it over, distract my kids so I can do laundry, bring caffeine and my favorite sit with the kids so I can shower.

Take something off my plate. Do something. Vacuum my floors, wash the dishes, throw a load of laundry in the wash, then take my car and my card and go grocery shopping for me. (Please feel free to use this as a list of things to ask for if it helps 🙃)

I feel like the best way anyone has helped is to spend enough time with us for them to become a safe person for our children. But other things that may help: Ask someone to bring you a meal that you might like- especially if your kids will only eat their safe meal. You deserve food too. Fix little things around the house? Fold your laundry? Clean out your fridge?

I just wish the ppl around me would take half tje time I’ve taken to learn about autism so I don’t have to explain it to everyone

My husband will ask me what I need. Some nights I tell him I need to sleep in a bed by myself for night 😂🤣😂

My dream would be to start a free advocacy respite resource. Bc what I really want is someone brilliant & tenacious to access the insurance, medical, therapies and IEP‘s. To fill out the endless paperwork, make the appointments, go to the meetings and get my kids what they deserve to live their best lives. I want a mental break way more than a physical one

Two things can be true ⭐️ :
Bring me food without me having to tell you what the kids say food or mine is.
