@roman_echoes: Nearly 1,900 years old. Still standing. Still not fully understood. 🏛️ The dome of the Pantheon spans 43 metres — with a perfect circular opening at the top, the oculus. No steel. No reinforcement. No internal supports. Just light… pouring in from above. But this is the detail that still fascinates engineers today: The Romans didn’t use the same concrete throughout. As the dome rises, the material changes. Heavy volcanic stone at the base. Lighter pumice near the top. A deliberate, precise reduction in weight — engineered nearly 2,000 years ago. A level of sophistication the rest of the world would take centuries to understand. 🔱 It remained the largest dome on Earth for over 1,300 years. Filippo Brunelleschi studied it before building Florence’s cathedral. Michelangelo studied it before designing St. Peter’s Basilica. Every great dome that followed… stands in its shadow. And even now — we still don’t fully know how they did it. 🕯️ #pantheon #rome #History #romanhistory #ai

Visited it 3 years ago the floor is on an incline so that the rain coming through the roof simply flows down to the grid, absolutely amazing that they could think about its design and build it. Then add the fact that the columns outside were brought from Greece and are even older than the building itself.

I can’t believe I stood in that same spot as ancient people did so long ago. It looks exactly the same and it’s blowing my mind.

Ma il 21 aprile quante persone cercano di entrare nell'ingresso al momento che il raggio solare illumina l'entrata?🤫
