I unfortunately don’t do quail and therefore have no experience with their size- but for our chickens we do raised platforms in the bottom of the coop with hardware cloth on top. Its intention is that the droppings fall through, when cleaning dust out the remaining droppings, move it, and shovel up the droppings. It’s like an extra step (slightly annoying bc moving) but also makes it SOOO much easier. Then for bedding we use straw when pine is unavailable 😅
