I dont agree with you, droping the block from a 1m hight will tell you some how its strength, but the edge tells you its edge consistency and geometry nothing commob with strength, regarding water absorption it doesnt tells you the strength but its water tightness, but the best way to detrmine the strength is using Compression strengthachine.
