I agree with the fact that rejection should not be over text, especially at 2300, however the employee did initiate the text thread and the manager responded

Hold up. The applicant ASKED over text. I agree with most of the issues raised, but not the argument about the RESPONSE via text.

I usually agree with you but not on this one. The employee was the one who initiated the text thread. If he didn't want the answer by text then he shouldn't have asked via text

the response from the boss was unprofessional. all the comments saying “but he asked via text!” are wrong. he asked for an update. the appropriate response back, via text, would be “you should be hearing from HR by x date”. not a formal rejection or offer. and certainly not at 11pm while drunk

Why is everything through text? Shouldn’t it be email or teams ? Seems so unprofessional to be texting a managers personal cell phone

Happened to me. Although I was essentially told for 10 months, that I'd get the promotion, was acting in the role (of course without the pay), interviewed, and found out I didn't get it by text. The, of course, I had to train the person they hired with no experience (I'd been there 6 years). I left 6 weeks later when I found another job.

This page constantly calls out managers that text employees at 5:01, but no issue with this employee texting his manager at 11pm?

Lord Robert :
Why is he texting his manager for updates on a role he applied for? it seems he was happy with texting friendly and when things didn’t go his way he chose to be hostile. HR should have been contacted for updates and not asking in a text. Both parties are most likely needing to be to be coached on professionalism.

Why do people text their bosses? I think that’s way too informal. Of my boss ever sent me a text message, I’d be saying “email me during work hours.”
