@jadewarshaw: Parents y’all need to stop with this. Hot Take: We as parents bring the children into the world and it is our responsibility to take care of the children, raise them up, prepare them to fly and then push them out to take flight… letting them fly on to continue the circle of life. We do all this WHILE simultaneously taking care of ourselves. Because we aren’t just parents we are adults and part of adulting is handling your business. Aside from any major life incident or medical crisis - and even so it is not the child’s responsibility to come back and take financial responsibility for the parents simply because that’s what the parent wants. Or because the parent decides they no longer want to do adulting activities.
I somewhat agree and disagree at the same time. As an adult, he has been living with his parents for sometime is what it sounds like. So it does sound like his parents have been supportive of him even into adulthood. He should definitely move out, but he should also consider giving his parents a one time decent gift for supporting him into adulthood. A gift that is large enough to pay off one or two debts that the parents have. Explained to the parents that it is a thank you gift for supporting him into adulthood, and that there will be no further monies in the future, and it is up to the parents to decide which debts they are going to pay with that gift. That would probably be the best thing to do in this situation in order to try and maintain some decent family relationships while also establishing future boundaries.

I would have asked how long has he been living with them as an adult? Have they been funding everything? Who paid for college? If my parents were in debt I’d help them with an amount I could afford bc they’ve done a lot for me.

Saying yes to family is a no to yourself. They are grown, let them figure it out just like you had to. I use to help out people and I said no more.
