@jeromecooksfood: Scones (full recipe below) For more scone talk, including how to make sure they’re perfect every time and loads of variations, sign up to my newsletter. The link is in the bio 🥮Scones (makes 9) 🌾Ingredients 350g plain flour 3 1/2 tsp cream of tartar & 1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda (Or 5 tsp baking powder) 85g butter (cubed) 3 tbsp caster sugar 175ml milk 1 squeeze of lemon juice 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional) 1 egg (beaten) 🔪Method 1️⃣Preheat the oven to 200C (fan). Combine the flour, sugar, cream of tartar and bicarbonate of soda (or baking powder), then add the butter and rub well until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs 2️⃣Add the lemon, vanilla (if using) and slowly add the milk while stirring. As you stir a soft, sticky dough will form. You may not need to use all the milk 3️⃣Put the dough on a floured work surface and fold and pat a few times until smooth, being careful not to overwork the dough. Roll the dough out until 1/2 inch (1cm) thick, then fold over and pat lightly. Cut out round with a lightly floured cookie cutter that is about 7cm (3 inches) across. 4️⃣Place the rounds onto a lined baking sheet, then brush the tops with egg 5️⃣Bake for 10 minutes, until golden brown and risen 6️⃣Enjoy! #Recipe #food #cooking #scone

Do you bother buying SR flour when you can just add baking powder to plain?

Also, never twist the cutter as it stops the scones from rising 😊

Subtitle: 6 tablespoons of butter? Eh? Checks recipe: 85 grammes (cubed). How does that work? No tablespoons of butter, please. Nor 2/3 cup of milk. Nor 1/2 inch (1cm) thick using 7cm (3 inches) cutter. It’s 2026. 🥰
