I’m debating to either install proxmox or Ubuntu server. Someone said to do proxmox then make a VM with Ubuntu server then do ARR stack on that.

If you’re just running Docker containers, a full hypervisor like Proxmox is overkill. You can run Docker on a minimal Linux install, it teaches you real, transferable skills without the added complexity of Proxmox’s configuration. And if you want a dashboard, something like Portainer or Dockge runs as a container on top of it.

my homelab currently just runs truenas as the base OS, i run my programs through the apps section (navidrome, jellyfin, slskd etc) would it be worth starting again with proxmox?

what's the upside to hosting a tailscale lxc? also, what does it do? I use ts for all my stuff but I've never had a lxc for it only per "machine" installs with the standard management panel they provide.
