He may hardly remember these trips, but that does not mean they are not shaping him. Long before children can consciously recall an experience, their brains and nervous systems are learning from it. Every new environment gives his developing brain new information to process: the sights, sounds, smells, movement, textures, people, and unpredictability of being somewhere new. His brain is constantly taking in those experiences, building and strengthening neural connections, learning patterns, and adapting to the world around him. Because development is not only about what we can consciously remember. So much of what shapes a developing nervous system happens through repeated experience: exploring, moving, encountering novelty, navigating different environments, and discovering what his little body and brain are capable of. He may not grow up remembering the details of these trips. He may not remember the mountains we climbed, the oceans he put his tiny feet in, or all the places we explored together. But those experiences can still become part of the brain he is building. And maybe that is the part we forget when we say, “But they won’t remember it.” I am not only traveling for him. I am traveling with him. I get to watch him experience a world that is still completely new to him. To see his face when he notices something for the first time. And somehow, getting to see the world through his eyes makes it feel new to me again, too. He may hardly remember these years. But I will. 🤍 #braindevelopment #travelmore #childhoodmemories #travelwithtoddler #brainhealth
