@thematernityguru: This is your reminder that in California, you can take up to 52 weeks of paid disability leave if you pay into SDI… and most people have NO idea how much support is actually available to them. This is my real claim summary. I was on State Disability from 8/5/2024 through 8/11/2025, and my benefit amount was at the maximum cap of $1,620 per week. That brought my total paid to over $84,000… tax-free money. 🤯💰 Let that sink in. This isn’t a “bonus” or something you have to feel guilty about using. This is a benefit you’ve been paying into and are fully entitled to if you qualify. Your benefit amount is based on your income, and depending on your situation, you may be eligible for months of paid time off through the state. And here’s what I need you to hear: 👉🏼 Do NOT be afraid to advocate for yourself with your doctor 👉🏼 Do NOT be afraid to ask questions with your employer 👉🏼 Do NOT assume you “have to go back” before you’re ready Your body just went through a major medical event. Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. I help working moms take 6+ months of paid leave when they welcome a new baby into the world and most of the time, they had no idea it was even possible. You don’t get this time back with your baby. Don’t lose it because you didn’t know your options. If you’re feeling confused start by downloading my FREE CA starter guide or use my maternity leave calculator to understand your benefit amount. Did you have job protection? I’ve been extending with doctors notes even though my employer told me I’ve exhausted my fmla and pdl already. They haven’t mentioned job protection yet 👀

My OB would only extend an extra 4 weeks. They said 10 weeks postpartum was the max they are able to do. I had to start a new claim with my psychiatrist so it's no longer under pregnancy/postpartum disability even though it's for postpartum depression.

I stopped working in October 2025 and am a student now but I read if you paid into it within certain weeks you can still claim something, is that true and if so what?
