omg i think my dad is 'allergic' to msg too. He doesnt care though- he just keeps sprinkling it on his food and then dealing with the sneezes. Its too good to give up 🤣

So the specific component in food that can cause an allergic reaction is the proteins, there are no proteins in MSG. Your dad may have an allergy to something else in the food, possibly soy as that’s not as prevalent in western food. Soya lecithin is becoming more prevalent in foods like chocolate bars, maybe have him try one with it in, but just be careful because people don’t always react the same way to an allergen every time, it could worse so stay safe!

get him checked for sinusitis. my stepdad and his mom both get sneez9ng fits when eating foods with a lot of spices or right after eating a lot. idk why but it could be that

msg is effectively just salt, many foods have it naturally, if he doesn't react when eating other foods then it's not the msg, it's something else, likely soy or other stuff that he rarely consumes

Gentle reminder that MSG allergies are virtually non existent and MSG occurs in so many foods naturally. I don't know why this man is sneezing, but he is not allergic to MSG.

Its not a real allergy if his immune system doesnt react and sneezing isnt a allergic response. Sneezing only happens with animal hair, mites or hey fever/pollen. If allergic he would get rashes and inflammation in his mouth and eating/drinkingr tube. MSG allergies exist but its rare and most people saying it have mostly a msg allergic complex

you cannot have a true, immune-mediated allergic reaction to MSG (monosodium glutamate). it is not an allergy because it does not contain protein, which is required to trigger an immune response.

It’s probably just gustatory rhinitis not a MSG allergy. Is he ok with Parmesan cheese, walnuts, and tomatoes? They are all contain a high amount of MSG.
