As a nurse she shouldn’t just be going on BP as a sole indicator of pain. 1 you should always listen to the patient, 2 pain doesn’t always effect bp especially people with chronic pain issues that they deal with long term. Sorry you had this experience.

My dads BP was 205/131 and 220/117 and she said this is a GP thing not a&e (even tho we got referred to go asap by the gp)…. And fully dismissed us

as a nurse, pain is subjective, if you tell me your in pain then that's it, your in pain and il act appropriately.

Hcas don’t get enough recognition. Hcas are the kindest souls, but they’re overlooked because they aren’t nurses.

I can’t find anything in my guidelines that suggests I should treat pain based on observations, ridiculous behaviour.

I was taught as a student nurse to believe their pain scale. Also, taught pain is not always shown in vitals. In my theatre placement any post op pain is noted, taken seriously, analgesia administered & monitor closely. I aim to never be a bitter nurse 🫶🏼

Speak up! The nurse should know pain is subjective so they CANNOT tell you what your pain level is! How many other people will have the same experience

As a A&E nurse I’ve seen everything normal and the patient turns. It’s definitely not always about the numbers x

Thank you SO much for posting this as someone who is on both sides. You’re so right. With chronic illness our pain scale is different and even if it wasn’t, just listen to the patient.

It’s so sad that there are some who behave like this but there are some who are absolute diamonds. It’s disheartening but the diamonds I am always so grateful for. I bet it is very interesting for you being a doctor and a patient. 🙏🏼

My BP lowers when I’m in pain, every time I’ve ended up in hospital they’re always worried about why it’s low, it’s just the way my body reacts to pain. Horrible for her to dismiss you based on this one thing

As a nurse I never dismiss someone’s pain. Pain is subjective so if you due for pain meds I will gladly give or ask pain team to assess you and prescribe meds. I’m sorry that happened to you or anyone in the same boat🥲
