people just need to realize not all of their feelings are valid.

The problem is we've confused "valid" with "correct" being upset about something is a valid human response, that doesn't mean you are in the right and the other party is in the wrong. You can have a valid response based on your maturity or healing level but that doesn't make you right.

People need to realize that there feelings should not be the main motive for your actions.

white male therapists have been the worse experiences I have ever had, I went through more than a dozen different therapists and the only two who worked out were the women with the same ethnicity as me, as a first generation immigrant white therapists haven't been able to help with anything regarding our ethnicity, heritage, family dynamics etc

I went for anxiety and my therapist just kept on agreeing and saying she understood why I was so stressed and it’s like no I needed to be told I was looking at things to deeply and the reality of the situation

Feelings are always valid. Cognitions are not always accurate. Coming from a graduating therapist.

depends on the therapist, if your therapist isn't challenging you and being blunt and straight to the point it helps to tell them that, generally therapist tend to tailor their approach to their clients needs.

Regardless of gender, it’s okay and actually super helpful to give this feedback to your therapist. Everyone needs different things. Some people do need to be challenged in session, while others respond better to a gentle more validating approach. The main thing to remember is that we aren’t mind readers:) sometimes we need you to tell us what you need. If you still aren’t getting it, next!

As someone else said in the comments, every therapist isn’t for everyone. Different people need different approaches. There’s nothing wrong with being picky about who you work with if you have the freedom to choose. Also give your therapist feedback, it helps them help you

Yes I know I need a direct therapist! I worked with a woman who reminded me of my mom (direct, slightly harsh, slightly cold demeanor) BECAUSE it triggers me, and really helped me work through the trauma I had and now my relationship with my mom is much better too

As someone who works at a therapy clinic, you need to request a therapist that will challenge you if that is what you want. I spent a year and a half matching new clients to clinicians, and if you told me what methods (tough love, handholding, etc) work best for you I could match you with clinician and be spot on most of the time. However, if you don't provide that information, we are swinging by the seat of our pants and making an educated guess.
