I recently had the opportunity to speak with the Cannabis Nurses Network on spirituality as a foundational element of cannabis and plant medicine care. It was a powerful reminder that this work is not only clinical, but deeply human. Patients are often seeking relief, meaning, connection, and a sense of wholeness alongside symptom management. Your patients are already using these therapies. Many are doing so quietly, without guidance, and often with fear of being judged. When you lead with curiosity instead of criticism, you create space for honest conversations about what they are using, why they are using it, and how you can support them safely. Nonjudgment is not passive acceptance. It is active, clinical engagement. It means assessing safety, understanding pharmacology, identifying risks such as drug interactions or overuse, and guiding patients toward the minimum effective dose. It means helping patients make informed decisions, not turning away from the conversation. When you remove stigma, patients tell the truth. When patients tell the truth, you can provide safer, more effective, and more individualized care. This is the work. This is the responsibility.
