the gems didn't trap her in the mirror, and when they tried to stop steven from freeing her they were correct because she was a powerful era 1 lapis who clearly wasn't apart of the rebellion. her going back home is apart of the reason why homeworld set their sights back onto earth

Yeah that was one thing I was pretty upset they never covered in the show. I wanted to see her properly reconcile with the crystal gems, but she just kinda inexplicably started being okay with them at some point. Lapis was such an underutilized character with so much wasted development and potential.

well she did try not to be friends with them, but loneliness consumed her, she didn’t think of them fondly or imagine herself with them specifically, but imagined with belonging in general, from her pov both the crystal gems and homeworld rejected her until steven (and later peridot) if it wasn’t for steven she would have been long gone
