@car.care.hub3: Popular Engine Oils That Break Down Under Heat Some of the most popular synthetic oils can’t handle extreme temperatures. Here’s what really happens inside your engine. #cars #oilchange #automotive #cartok #mechaniclife
if your engine is 250 degrees, you have other issues than the oil.

If you have a high performance car, you should be running 10W40 or something similar. 5W30 is for 4 cylinders

oh man some of the comments...Engine temperature readings only show the coolant temperature at the sensor, not the actual temperatures of combustion components that reach over 300°c. Parts like pistons, rings, exhaust valves, and the turbo operate at vastly higher temperatures, and heat transfers directly into the surrounding oil. Even when coolant reads around 90–100°C, the oil against these hot surfaces is exposed to much higher localised temperatures, causing gradual thermal breakdown, oxidation, and degradation over time.

All commercial engine oils are junk. I rely on a 50/50 mix of Wesson Canola oil and Mazola Corn oil. Never had one issue

The experts in the comments are clueless. On hot days my Engine oil runs 115⁰C to 125⁰C uphill. Most engines absolutely runs around this engine oil temp....coolant and oil temps are not the same....

I've worked at a refinery and most oils come from the same company the only differences are additives. You're paying mostly for the brand.

Stop running 10000 miles between oil changes. These companies want you to do that to destroy your engine. Every 4500 to 5000 miles is fine.

I have Audi A6 C7 that is 12 years old and 300.000 km. For the last 8 years it is using only Castrol Edge LL 5w30... no consumption of the oil, no weird smell, no weird noise, no issues.
