I am a twin, and we were always compared. I really wanted to do better for them than my parents did for us. I wanted them to be friends. I read the book, "Siblings without Rivalry." And, it was basically just what Rebecca said, don't compare or label. They are 17 and 13, and they are very good friends. They celebrate one another's accomplishments without competition. As a parent, it is heart-warming. All I could have asked for.

I am an only child do and in a way I think only children feel a sense of loss in life because we have no one to look up to (or look down) and I actually work with kids so I hear comparisons all the time, at the end of the day I swear to god the kids you thought “weren’t gonna make it” or “were behind” end up almost every time being the best well behaved and curious/intelligent kids that ever exist. All children grow up differently based on the cards they are dealt and parents understanding those differences can make or break a child

I’m super intuitive and very cat like long story short I’ve grown up with cats. I resonate with their energy and that’s absolutely correct as a mother a single mother of 4 Stretched Way too thin. I probably have done this and it’s because it’s a lot for us. it’s very overstimulating for us, but we sometimes forget to meet them where they’re at and explain to themwhen it’s appropriate to do this or that so this helped me a lot thank you.

So thoughtful of Rebecca to share this. I think I may have done this with our 2 cats (recently deceased). Now I feel bad about it. But going forward with our next two kitties, I can start anew. Thank you Lori for sharing Rebecca’s thoughts! We could use more tips like this!

I have felt this my whole of my parenting life, I have one of each. I remind them their whole lives. they are not the same, yes yous have the same parents we all live in the same house. but we are all different. one might get something the other doesn't because of many reason. they dont need to be anything like each other. I guess what im say is you should never compare each of them. let each one find there own self. smart cat

I definitely agree that kids are MEANT to be different from one another. I'm one of 4-8 kids and aspects of our individuality came out as we contrasted against our siblings.
