GUYS!! its so that if theres a storm or sm that causes a power outage you can see that theres a chance any meat in the fridge is bad! the ice WILL refreeze, meaning the rest of the food will too, but the coin will have sunk, meaning that the food was defrosted/refrosted and therefore bad

Some people don’t understand the concept of power going off then back on again. You would never know if you come home and all your food is frozen still but it could have sat for hours or even days. Some foods (namely breast milk) cannot be unfrozen then refrozen. So it’s important to know if the power went out and if so, how long. This is a really cool idea

the clocks will only tell u whether or not the power went out, not for how long tho. if the coin ends up at the bottom, that means it was out long enough for the cup of ice to completely melt and refreeze which means your food did the same.

Everyone’s missing the point, it’s if the power goes out but comes back before you get home, therefore everything would re-freeze. But wouldn’t be safe to consume since then it thawed & re-froze.
