Does anyone else just love aerial farm photography?! I love seeing old operations and how they change.

This happened to me at my old house (built in 1865) that we were redoing. I was kneeling and picking something up after we had scrapped the dirt with the backhoe and HEARD something plop into water. Look to my right and was staring through a 3inch hole or so down 15-20 feet at water. Scared the crap out of me. No worries though, just an old cistern we had no idea about! Old properties are full of SO many surprises!

I just took a mineral title and examination law course for school. I had to learn how to chain title. I can help if you’re interested! Good news is title would start with the state per KY laws, so you can go to the county clerk and ask for the current chain of conveyances and start there!

Our property had a similar tank outside the barn with the old fuel pump. They stored the fuel in the tank. Really cool, not sure if that’s what yours is though.

It could be a water cistern or a former gas/diesel tank. My grandpa buried his about the same distance from his machine barn so he could pull out and fill the tanks before working.

In love with your page and the stories about your land! My husband and I just bought a 240 acre farm in Missouri and there are lots of old structures on the farm. We really want to dive into the history of the farm, but I don’t know where/how to start. We have gathered that it was an old dairy farm and we were told that one of the barns on the property is over 250 years old! Any pointers you can give us?
