I have never heard of using sealer on a blend panel but if the color matches and you can't see a color change its good.

You could have sprayed the sealer towards the fender completely doing away with a dry edge.

I've done this without the sealer wit solvent base had no issues at all & came out as good if not better & in a normal old school crossflow booth & using a off the welfare rack primer gun from princess auto

I bet I have seen that trick before because I used to paint all the time and you don’t really have to turn down the paint to do that kind of the trick like you’re talking about if you know how to do it right
